Tour Guide Profile: John Graham
John Graham has long held a fascination for seabirds and his vast pelagic birding experience and knowledge will be
invaluable during our Antarctic cruise.
John was raised in South Africa and has been a fanatical birder since
his school days, fitting in birding trips wherever possible between his
professional duties as an electrical engineer. He has birded extensively
in Southern Africa he holds one of the highest bird lists for the
subregion and is a long standing member of the South African Rare Birds
Committee. John has long held a fascination for seabirds and commenced
his seabird guiding on trips out of Cape Town during the mid-1990’s. In
2000 he and Trevor Hardaker formed Zest for Birds, specialising in
pelagic seabird trips, and he has now guided in excess of 200 pelagic
birding trips into the Benguela Current region off Cape Town with guests
from throughout the world. John has pursued his love for seabirds in
far flung areas of the world, including a six week working cruise of the
Subantarctic region to Marion Island in the Southern Indian Ocean, a
five week pelagic birding cruise through the western Pacific from New
Zealand to Japan, pelagic trips into the Humbolt current region off
Chile, and guided two birding cruises in the Mozambique Channel west of
Madagascar.
