Spoon-billed Sandpiper video footage & associated tours

The Spoon-billed Sandpiper is one of the world’s Critically Endangered species, facing immanent extinction due to habitat loss, a low fledging success rate, human disturbance, and the ever increasing effects of climate change. We are therefore very grateful to Rockjumper’s newest tour leader David Erterius for allowing us to share his rare video clip of a displaying male bird, which he filmed during a scientific survey in June 2010 in the Anadyr region of Chukotka in the Russian Far East. (Click here to view this video)

For anyone wishing to see this charismatic species whilst it’s still possible, we offer several tours and cruises that provide the opportunity to do so. (Please bear in mind, that in Thailand and China the birds will be in non-breeding plumage, while on our Russian Far East cruises they will not be seen at such close proximity as this video shows. Nonetheless, the mere fact of witnessing this utterly unique and deeply threatened bird in the wild more than makes up for this!) For further information on any of these departures, please contact our office on info@rockjumper.com, or follow the links below.
