Our Essential Namibia tour is a comprehensive camping circuit of the prime birding and wildlife destinations in Namibia in a compact 10 day, budget safari. We will have the opportunity to target almost every one of Namibia's endemic bird species while also taking in the countries vast and incredible desert scenery and unique fauna and flora.
We begin our journey in Windhoek, Namibia’s capital and an area that offers a superb introduction to Namibian birds. Thereafter, we drive through the ancient Namib Desert, a land of enormous red dunes and the bizarre Welwitschia, a gymnosperm restricted to the sands of this inhospitable desert. The dunes here are a favourite subject for photographers and artists alike, and we will take time to enjoy these marvels of Nature.
The cold Benguela Current is responsible for the rich upwelling along southern Africa’s west coast, and its biological wealth we sample at Walvis Bay, an estuarine system that holds around 100,000 waterbirds in the summer months. Leaving the coast, we then journey inland to the scenic Spitzkoppe where we will camp in surely one of the starriest places on Earth! Here we will search for two of our primary Namibian targets, the tricky Herero Chat and the striking White-tailed Shrike.
Next we head to the world famous Etosha National Park where we will be spending the bulk of our time on this adventure. Here we can expect to be blown away by the streams of many thousands of mammals and vast quantities of birds that come daily to drink at the numerous waterholes dotted around the park. These will often be the focus of our attention as it is as these waterholes that we stand our best chances for Etosha's rarer denizens, including the endangered Black Rhino and magnificent Leopard. Some of the birds we will be targeting in this splendid reserve include isolated populations of Rufous-eared Warbler and Blue Crane, Violet Woodhoopoe, and Bare-cheeked and Black-faced Babblers.
Our final destination is the the spectacular Waterberg; a massif that rises around 500 metres above the surrounding plains. Birds we will be searching for include Ruppell’s Parrot, Rosy-faced Lovebird, the delightful Rockrunner, Hartlaub’s Spurfowl, endangered Cape Vulture, Bradfield’s Swift, Bradfield’s and Monteiro’s Hornbills, and Carp’s Tit.
All in all, this tour promises an unbeatable experience for those wishing to sample the incredible wilderness of this modern African country at an extremely reasonable price.

What our clients say about tours to Namibia, Botswana & Zambia
This [Essential Namibia Birding] trip was a wonderful and unique experience for me. I was pleased with everything about it and also was pleased with myself for having met the challenge of camping and hiking and living out of a tent (most of the nights). It’s not something I’ve done for quite some years. I actually felt renewed and revitalized when it was over. Thanks to everyone for an experience of a lifetime for me!
