Cuba

Our Cuba birding tours focus on Cuba’s fantastic endemic birds and numerous Caribbean specials. We stand a good chance of seeing almost all of Cuba's endemics on our birdwatching tour to this under-birded country, as well as great wintering North American migrants. Sites that we explore include the Bermeja Reserve for the miniscule Bee Hummingbird, stunning Cuban Tody and Cuban Trogon — the island’s national bird. Oriente Warbler and Cuban Gnatcatcher are some of the numerous specials we will look for around Cayo Coco, on the Camaguey Archipelago. The famous Zapata Swamp holds Zapata Wren, Zapata Sparrow and the critically endangered Zapata Rail. While the range of species possible may not be as high as other Latin American destinations, the number of endemics to the island and the region make this a must-do and highly enjoyable birding tour.

Our Mexico - Yucatan Extension is offered in conjunction with our Cuba tours. During this week-long exploration we expect to notch up an impressive 250 bird species, including 14 endemics and another 8 near-endemics. Habitats we cover include the scrub and forest of Tulum, coastal estuaries and mangroves of Rio Lagartos, the endemic-rich island of Cozumel and the deep forests that envelope the Coba ruins. Some of our targets include the remarkable Ocellated Turkey, Yucatan Bobwhite, Yucatan Amazon, Yucatan Poorwill, Yucatan Woodpecker, Orange Oriole, Yucatan Jay, Yucatan Wren, Black Catbird, Mexican Sheartail, Cozumel Emerald and Rose-throated Tanager. Aside from brilliant birds, our exploration also includes delicious food, fascinating Mayan architecture and beautiful, white sand beaches, all of which combine to create a very relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable birding experience.
