I cannot possibly say enough good things about Chris Sharpe; he did a spectacular job on this tour! His knowledge of the birds of the region is comprehensive, and he was very good about letting us know about their natural history in addition to field marks and ID. He was very enthusiastic and handled everything with unflagging good humor. Chris made sure we knew what to expect on each excursion and worked really hard to ensure that we all had the best possible chances to see those skulky and exciting forest birds. He would give us good guidance such as, “Strange as it may seem, right now you really want to be watching this piculet rather than that macaw,” and seemed remarkably good at keeping in mind who had seen what as we went along. He worked well with a group with varying levels of expertise, and was very patient with those of us struggling to get to grips with an outstanding number of new species. I don’t want to leave out our local guide on this tour … [who] was a great asset, very knowledgeable, personable, enthusiastic, and helpful.

Chris Sharpe is at a higher level than most guides I have toured with. The result was that each participant openly stated that, from a group birding point of view, this was their best tour, including me, with 40 major tours under my belt.

Chris Sharpe and Eric Martinez produced a very successful tour. They worked together well and their skills complemented each other. Chris’s education and experience provided us with a plethora of knowledge and fun facts. His personnel skills were put to the test with quite a diverse group of birders with an assortment of desires. He…
The more we got to know Chris as the tour progressed, the more fun we had. We found the birds and we did not neglect their enjoyment once we found them, and we also remembered to have fun with each other as well. We laughed a lot! The group chemistry was very good, and I…

Having known Chris for many years, we knew this was going to be a great tour. And it was. Chris is personable with a delightful sense of humor. One always feels comfortable around him. He takes excellent care of his birders (clients) by ensuring them what the daily plan is, where we are going and why. His birding skills are beyond excellent. He makes sure everyone sees the bird, if possible, explaining what we’re looking for and where. His ability to provide directions is a skill that goes a long way to making the bird spotting pleasurable and possible. Chris’s keen hearing ensures that birds that aren’t being seen have the potential to be called into view. Rockjumper is fortunate to employ Chris, an extraordinary individual. We look forward to traveling with Chris in the future.

I’d first like to compliment Chris Sharpe on being a superb guide! Chris really made the trip special. He’s very knowledgeable about the birds in Cuba and he assembled an excellent group of Cuban biologists, guides, and support staff. Chris struck that fine balance between making this an enjoyable trip while making sure we remained…
This was an excellent trip. I couldn’t have written a better story. Our guide, Chris Sharpe was knowledgeable in birds and other scientific topics. He was very keen on details of our arrangements and itinerary, keeping our time productive and enjoyable. He had a very pleasant demeanour, was enthusiastic about the birds we were searching for, and was a good story teller, which helped make the whole experience a lot of fun.

Mexico was a blast! I saw 81 lifers on the extension and another 86 on the main trip. Our local guide, Eric, was great. He is young, enthusiastic, has good ears and eyes and knows his birds and their behaviours very well. I quickly dubbed him ‘Mr Never-give-up’ as he would keep at it until…
