This image of a small flock of roosting Blue-breasted Bee-eaters was taken by Matthew Matthiessen at Lalibela’s Cave Church during one of Rockjumper’s Ethiopia tours. Upon leaving the church at sunset, the group spotted this family roosting in a low tree. As with many other Ethiopian birds, the beautiful Bee-eaters allowed close approach, and Matthew was able to obtain this superb and endearing image. While this was happening, a local priest was attracted by the group’s focus on these roosting bee-eaters and joined them in admiring this unusual spectacle!
