The Ibisbill is one of the international birder’s most sought-after species, not only because it’s a splendidly attractive bird, but also due to the fact that it’s the sole member of the family Ibidorhynchidae. Now known as Ibisbill, this unique wader was originally given the awkward name of Red-billed Erolia! The Ibisbill inhabits an exceptionally beautiful part of the world. Breeding along stony riverbeds in the high mountains of central Asia and wintering along the shingle beds of braided river systems on the lower slopes of the Himalayas and other mountain ranges, it can be extremely difficult to spot as it masterfully blends into its rocky background (as can be seen in this portrait by Rich Lindie).Three Rockjumper tour destinations will provide you with the opportunity to see this superb bird, as well as a plethora of other exciting birds and wildlife with which the Ibisbill shares its home range. These are China, Northern India & Bhutan. Check out our website for further details….
