Our Cuba – Caribbean Endemics Birding tours target almost all 28 Cuban endemic birds and further 23 Caribbean specials, as well as great wintering North American migrants. Using the services of local bird specialists at each site, we guarantee an impressive success rate in observing the island’s amazing avian diversity. From the world’s tiniest bird (the Bee Hummingbird) to such sought-after species as Giant Kingbird, the cute Cuban Tody, the beautiful Cuban Trogon, Gundlach’s Hawk, Oriente and Yellow-headed Warbler, Zapata Wren and no less than four species of stunning quail-doves, Cuba is an absolute pleasure to bird. On this tour we will cover a wide variety of habitats, ranging from interior tropical forests and mangroves, to extensive wetlands and white sand beaches along the northern coral cays. The awesome birdlife is further augmented by ease of travel, comfortable lodges, fascinating culture, a turbulent history, vintage cars that take one back to the 50’s and friendly people.

The tour was great. It exceeded our expectations. We got more than our money's worth. Part of that was Dušan making everyone feel welcome. He was a great guide and worked really hard at locating Cuban Endemics for us. We also saw, surprisingly, many other North American Warblers. He was very friendly and didn't mind being asked over and over, "which bird is that," even though he had named the bird many times before. Talk about patience!
Our Rockjumper guide for all three tours, Adam Walleyn, was an excellent birder and attentive to all participants. We have travelled with Adam previously and continue to enjoy his expertise and passion for nature. Adam's leadership was a major factor in our booking the three tours.
Overall, the birding aspect of the tour was fabulous. Excellent guides all around. Local field guides (Elier, Nils, Mario, Oday) were all friendly, knowledgeable and well-connected with their local areas. Our coach driver, Enrique, was amazing - he was always professional and we were all so impressed with his ability to navigate the bus in the tightest little spaces. Our tour guide Mario was over the top helpful and knowledgeable about all things Cuba -- definitely a must for future Rockjumper tours. Marios consistently upbeat demeanor and ease of communication made him critical to the success of this trip. Bobby is a highly skilled birder and hard working. He did a great job of managing a sometimes difficult group that complained a lot about insignificant things. His post-trip eBird trip report and photos were phenomenal. The wide range of variation in regions, ecosystems, unique little places, locally-owned accommodations, friendly people, and ease of access to special birding areas made this trip memorable. We especially enjoyed the visit to a local familys backyard garden to see the Bee Hummingbird, as well as the birding and honey-tasting experience at the local farm near las Terrazas Biosphere Reserve.
Forrest Rowland is an outstanding guide! We would definitely travel with him again. Great guy!
Forrest is an incredibly great guide both from the birding and people perspective, just like the other 4 Rockjumper guides I have been with. And Cuba is an amazingly interesting country to visit.
