Overview

Marvelous Spatuletail, Royal Sunangel, Koepcke’s Hermit, Gould's Jewelfront – and that’s just a few of the mind-blowing, highly sought-after hummingbird species we’ll be looking for on this humminbird focused tour of northern Peru. From our base in Tarapoto, we search for the rare Koepke's Hermit before moving slowly northwards, taking in the hummingbird rich Waqanki and Moyobamba area before culminating in the stunning forests of Abra Patricia.

Tour Pace & Walking
Our Family tours are dedicated to the enjoyment and appreciation of specific bird families. Whilst we will certainly not ignore other bird families and species, we will not be going out of our way to find them. These tours are slower paced, allowing for as much time as appropriate to be spent in hides, feeders or similar such sites. There are rarely early starts or late finishes to the day. These tours are suitable for all birding interests and experience levels, avid photographers and in some cases can accommodate those with mobility or health challenges.

This was an excellent tour! We saw so many great birds, and had many delicious meals from pizza to ceviche. The time spent birding and touring Kuelap was a highlight. To top everything off, Forrest Rowland is an awesome leader. In addition to hearing, seeing and getting everyone on the birds, he told wonderful stories and kept everyone laughing. All in all, we had a terrific time.

It is terrific to have a bilingual guide in any country and one who knows the history and culture of the country is even better, thanks Rob! As always, terrific eyes, ears and birding skills.

Our guide, Rob Williams, was exceptionally well qualified, good humoured in all circumstances and remarkably diligent in accommodating all levels of birding skills within our group. He went out of his way to make sure that each member of the group realised their expectations for the trip. We would welcome the opportunity to join him on additional trips; he is a quality individual with sound values and a superb representative of Rockjumper Birding Tours.

Rob Williams was a brilliant guide in all respects. Throughout the three weeks, he gave the group his all. He is outstanding, and we would love to travel with him again.

Forrest Rowland is a terrific guide. He was incredibly knowledgeable of the birds we encountered on our trip. Further, he is very friendly, engaging and enthusiastic. I’d be quite pleased to join him again on any birding tour in the Neotropics.
