Overview

The small West African nation of Senegal is a popular birding holiday destination, for many reasons. One of these is the ability to escape the cold Northern winters to a summer wonderland only a few hour’s flight away, though add in easily accessible, and superb West African birding habitats and many sought after birds and it’s easy to understand why so many birders flock to this nation on an annual basis.

Rockjumper is, therefore, pleased to be offering a superb tour to this great birding destination, and our very comprehensive tour encompasses the avian highlights of this remarkable region, targeting an array of very special and sought-after species. For anyone seeking a relaxed and enjoyable introduction to African birds and birding and excellent photographic opportunities, this tour comes highly recommended!

Tour Pace & Walking
our Mega tours are very fast-paced birding adventures designed for the dedicated lister and serious birder. The focus of the tour is to see as many of the endemics and area specials as possible in our given time. In order to cover the necessary route to maximise the species list we tend to spend a single night at most sites and travel large distances. There is very little down time aside from that spent driving from one site to the next. These tours are not suitable for dedicated or avid photographers; inexperienced or new birders; as well as anyone with serious mobility or health challenges.

P

André, who escorted us on four drives, is a superb tracker with great knowledge of the reserve and its denizens. He is also an expert on the birdlife of southern Africa and was able to bring the bush to life for us with knowledge of all that we saw.

Dennis Yong was certainly knowledgeable on his birds and all other wildlife. I have to hand it to him, he has YEARS of experience and it shows.

B

André in particular went out of his way to make sure our stay was as wonderful as it could be. Andre is also a great guide, with the ability to spot just about everything that moves, even if the movement is only breathing.

Rockjumper's office staff continue with their excellent high level of client services. Prompt, concise and courteous replies are a trade-mark of the Rockjumper staff.

M

I am not a twitcher or even a knowledgeable birdwatcher, but I am always keen to see new things. Our ranger André had a huge knowledge of birds. He shared this and more about all the flora and fauna that we came across. He explained about insects and trees as we passed them and didn't fail to answer a question.
