Djibouti is one of Africa’s least visited birding tours destinations. The “Horn of Africa” in fact offers a remarkable number of endemic and specialities that are difficult or impossible to see elsewhere, making this a most productive and rewarding birding destination. The tantalizing endemics and near-endemics include the critically endangered Djibouti Francolin and Somali Starling. These are complimented by a rich assemblage of other sought-after dry country species that include the likes of the localised Sombre Rock Thrush, Arabian Golden Sparrow, Somali Sparrow, Crab-plover, Hemprich’s Hornbill, Desert Lark, Somali Bulbul, Red-fronted Warbler, Nubian Woodpecker, Rosy-patched Bushshrike, Arabian Warbler, Green-winged Pytilia (the local distinctive form may be split off as Yellow-tailed Pytilia), Persian Shearwater, Greater Hoopoe Lark
