Tour Guide Profile: Cuan Rush
Cuan is a birding and wildlife guide for Rockjumper, leading tours throughout Africa, Madagascar and Asia. He is also the operations manager for our private tours department.
Cuan Rush was born in Durban and raised on the KwaZulu-Natal north coast. He has enjoyed a lifelong passion for the African bush, its fauna and flora and the conservation thereof. After schooling he completed a 3-year qualification in Nature Conservation, and has been involved in bird related work ever since. A three years stint at the Umgeni River Bird Park in Durban was the beginning, followed by 5 years developing birding multimedia products including the Roberts' Multimedia Birds of Southern Africa cd-rom. Thereafter, Cuan worked at Mutemwa Lodge, a luxury lodge on the Zambezi River in south-western Zambia as the lodge manager and resident bird guide. Cuan has been a full-time birding and wildlife guide for Rockjumper Birding Tours for a number of years and leads a variety of tours around the African continent, Madagascar and India. His passion, knowledge and enthusiasm for birds is evident to all the participants on his tours.
"On a recent birding trip from Cape Town to Windhoek we appreciated Cuan’s range of talents. His keen eyes, knowledge of bird vocalizations and great enthusiasm for finding birds combine very nicely with his logistical expertise and delightful sense of humour. I was very pleased with the trip — well done, Cuan!"

"Just a postscript to reiterate our appreciation for the wonderful tour around Madagascar you led. We both had a great time. Your enthusiasm and day-to-day attention to assure we all had a successful birding experience and overview of the unique biodiversity [is] not to be forgotten."
