Photographer: Adam Riley   Destination: Antarctica & the Southern Ocean

This photo was captured one memorable morning on our recent Antarctica, Falklands and South Georgia cruise. We began this incredible day at South Georgia’s (and possibly the world’s) largest King Penguin colony, St Andrew’s Bay, where a staggering 300,000 birds (more or less!) were present. The colony packed the dramatic landscape from shoreline to glacier, showcasing penguins from trumpeting adults to inquisitive, fluffy brown youngsters.

With Antarctic Fur Seals birthing on the beaches, vast bellowing Southern Elephant Seals, Snowy Sheathbills untying our shoelaces and Subantarctic Skuas predating the colony, it was sensory overload deluxe, and tough to know where to point the camera! This image was taken by Adam Riley and gives a small taste of this truly impressive scene! Even hardened travellers on our cruise agreed that this was one of the greatest wildlife experiences of their lives!
