Overview

Bolivia has a very distinctive allure. It does not have the longest list of birds, nor does it have the best infrastructure or accommodations of any South American country. However, Bolivia has more intrigue and potential than any other South American country. Bolivia has more barely accessed natural areas, more varied habitats yet to be explored, and more opportunity for visiting birders to actually contribute to the base of knowledge that is only very recently, and very slowly, being expanded by researchers and travelling birders alike.

The above paragraph says nothing of the endless, impressive, awe-inspiring backdrops against which a birding adventure in Bolivia plays out. Towering peaks soaring tens-of-thousands of feet high, canyons plunging thousands of feet deep, and the largest inland lake in all of South America (home to the most influential native culture on the continent), are daily landscapes one enjoys during a tour through the heart of the Bolivian Andes. Dry Chaco forests, swampy Pampas grasslands, unique Chiquitania woodland, endemic-rich arid Andean valleys, and the bird-rich Yungas right up to scree slopes and bufedal wetlands at 15,000 feet are just some of the habitats in which we spend valuable time.

In order to complement our standard comprehensive Bolivia tour, our remote tour concentrates on the far flung and rarely visited endemics and localities. Diverse, spectacular species and scenery, as well as being, by default, utterly immersed in truly remote, intact, Andean culture. Birding in Bolivia isn’t just a trip; it’s a unique, total experience.

Tour Pace & Walking
Our Mega tours are very fast-paced birding adventures designed for the dedicated lister and serious birder. The focus of the tour is to see as many of the endemics and area specials as possible in our given time. In order to cover the necessary route to maximise the species list we tend to spend a single night at most sites and travel large distances. There is very little down time aside from that spent driving from one site to the next. These tours are not suitable for dedicated or avid photographers; inexperienced or new birders; as well as anyone with serious mobility or health challenges.

The tour was wonderful and I feel Dusan did a great job balancing the needs of the people on this tour who varied in birding expertise and listing/photography interests. Being the one with the least birding experience, I appreciated the time he took to make sure that we all had good views of the most important birds and making sure that we all felt an equal and valued part of the adventure."

Dusan is an excellent birder and did a great job balancing the desires of all participants.

Bolivia is a rougher country, Rockjumpers accommodations were as good as could be expected. Ground agent did an excellent job, the lunches were nice! Dusan is an outstanding birder, with a wonderful personality.
