Cameroon is a vast and diverse land; lying just north of the equator, this bird-rich nation forms the inter-grade between West and Central Africa and harbours a wide range of habitats, ranging from steamy lowland rainforest to Sahelian semi-desert. By combining our Rainforest & Rockfowl tour with our Northern Extension you have an unbeatable three-week Cameroon birding tour that visits all of the area’s core ecological zones and provides a thorough coverage of this, West Africa’s richest birding destination. Due to its wealth of habitats, over 900 bird species have been recorded, and 26 endemic or near-endemic species occur, most of which you can expect to see on this tour! If you have a sense of adventure and an interest in the birds of the African continent, then this is a destination you simply cannot afford to miss. We greatly look forward to sharing the avian riches of West Africa with you on this incredible tour!
2023 - After several years of intermittent security issues, Cameroon has stabilised, allowing safe and secure access to all the key birding sites.

The Cameroon tour was great. It was a challenge with the climate and the road conditions but everything was well organized. David Hoddinott is a super guide - his prior experience in Cameroon was very helpful. His skills and and his energy enabled us to see and enjoy many of the rare and desired species!
I've wanted to come to Cameroon for decades. I wanted adventure. I wanted heat and tropical rainforests. I wanted new birding friends, with genuine connections. I wanted a guide, the best in the business, who astounds me every couple of minutes with his knowledge of the birds and their calls, who has appreciation of support staff, wonderful management of guests and their expectations (and limitations), who has a great sense of humour and genuine kindness. You have delivered everything I ever wanted on this trip. Thank you so SO much!
My answers do not reflect the quality of Rockjumpers, which was superb. I just did not like the deplorable conditions of the country. It was a very rugged trip, as advertised. We did see a lot of birds, many rare and endangered. David was incredibly brilliant and helpful all the way. The country not so much. I have too many comments to list now.
My comments are meant to cover both the main tour and the extension. This was an unusually difficult tour, but I expected that. I was unable to complete the hikes on Mt. Cameroon and Mt. Kupe, which cost me a few birds. It would have been better had I taken this tour when I was younger (I am now 77). Still, this was a worthwhile tour and I saw the birds that were most important to me. David did an excellent job of guiding, as usual. I believe this was my 5th tour with him. He is very good at finding and identifying birds. The trip went about as well as could be expected. I am not a big fan of Cameroon. The food was better than I expected, but accommodations, roads, and vehicles were all sub-standard, even by African standards.
