Embark on a photographic odyssey through the diverse landscapes of Croatia, Slovenia and Austria!  This tour begins on the starkly beautiful Pag Island, Croatia, searching for Rock Partridge against a lunar-like backdrop.  Journey to the dramatic canyons of Paklenica National Park, home to the elusive Western Rock Nuthatch and Sombre Tit before exploring the revitalized Škocjanski Zatok Nature Reserve, a haven for Little Terns and Melodious Warblers.  We’ll then venture into the Slovenian Karst, seeking out Short-toed Snake Eagle and Alpine Swift before enjoying the natural wonder of Lake Cerknica, a haven for Corn Crakes and White-tailed Eagles. We’ll ascend to higher altitudes in pursuit of Alpine Accentor and Wallcreeper before focusing on the forests of Koroška, where we'll stalk the magnificent Western Capercaillie and the elusive Ural Owl.

As the tours starts to wind down, we'll utilize specialized hides and drinking stations to capture images of Eurasian Hoopoe and European Bee-eater before venturing to the Hungarian borderlands, seeking out the iconic Great Bustard in its elaborate courtship displays. This region also offers prime habitat for Montagu's Harrier, Short-eared Owl, and the striking Syrian Woodpecker. Our tour will conclude at the renowned Neusiedler See-Seewinkel National Park, where we'll witness the spectacle of bird migration, with opportunities to photograph White-tailed and Eastern Imperial Eagles soaring amidst the Pannonian lakes. Get ready to capture frame-worthy moments against a backdrop of breathtaking scenery.

Tour Pace & Walking

UNDEMANDING: This tour is ideal for birders and wildlife enthusiasts of all experience levels. It’s suitable for most mobility levels and offers a relaxed pace, ensuring an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Comfortable. • Our Bird Photo Tours are a hybrid between our Classic birding tours and dedicated photographic tours. You don’t have to be a professional photographer or have the biggest lens; this is for everyone with an interest in photography and birding. Whether you’re using a bridge camera or the latest body and prime lens, our aims are the same. • These tours are not aimed at seeing the most species possible on the route, rather taking time to photograph key targets and any other interesting species we may find. Naturally, the overall species list will be lower than a comparable birding focused tour. • Whilst we may use blinds, feeders and hide setups on some of these tours, we will not be spending an entire day nor even several hours fixed in one spot. • These tours are suitable for photographers who prefer opportunistic photography over entire days in a hide. • Our leaders will assist in helping everyone secure good photographic opportunities and advise as much as they can on camera setup. However, they are not professional photographic tour leaders.

Accommodation

Comfortable with en suite facilities.

Ease of Birding

Birding is undemanding. Primary focus is photography.

Photographic Opportunities

Good to excellent. Several professionally built, well located hides & blinds. Some stalking & opportunist photography.

What our clients say about us

Lev Frid
DB, Guyana - Birds & Wildlife II 2025

I really enjoyed having Lev as a tour guide, he was very knowledgeable and helpful and great at giving directions to see "hidden" birds in the jungle.

André Bernon
DE, Thailand - Asian Birding at its Best II 2025

Note that some of the comments I made regarding the Thailand extension apply to the main Thailand tour. I liked the sequence of sites visited; it ensured the Spoonbill Sandpiper was seen early on and then designed to minimize travel. Staying multiple nights at one site is always appreciated and seemed to be done as much as possible. The guides made special efforts to see bird species sought by the group; we saw more bird species than I expected. The drivers were excellent and also one of them, Jaime, was a good birder who helped the guides track down some species; it was an asset to have internet while in the vehicles. The drivers also produced an excellent video of the trip - a nice touch; they also did an excellent job with mid-morning breaks. I especially enjoyed visiting a hide all morning early on in the trip - it gave us a chance to see some elusive species but also several species very well. One morning was spent looking for a rare duck; I would have rather spent the time looking for a variety of Thai species. Quite a bit of birding was done along roads - it might have been better to bird trails etc. if they are available and afford good views of birds pointed out. Food was excellent (Uthai selected great dishes for the group) and accomodations were good. It was an enjoyable trip with rewarding looks at many of the bird species seen.

Stuart Elsom
CS, Madagascar - Budget Birding 2025

Stu is a personable, helpful, and organized guide and was a pleasure to travel with. He was ready to help not only with finding and identifying birds, but also with little problems that popped up during our trip, as they so often do. Our local guide was likewise consistently friendly and helpful. My main concern is that on this trip, as on past Rockjumper trips, there doesn't seem to be any effort to vet the physical ability of potential group members, and as a result those of us who are prepared for the experience are held back by those who are physically not ready for it. I know that trips are rated on the website in regards to the level of exertion required, but this does not seem to help -- I have been on multiple tours with people who are not physically capable of maintaining a steady level of exertion while birding. This is not fair to those of us who are.

Lev Frid
JM, Guyana - Birds & Wildlife II 2025

Despite the heat and humidity, Guyana is a magical place with gorgeous rainforests and savannahs and lots of beautiful birds and the wonderful giant anteater. Lev Frid was a wonderful guide full of great enthusiasm. I especially appreciated his patience in helping everyone get a good view of the birds. He is a joy to travel with. Our local guide was also great and a lot of fun to be around and so helpful as well in identifying the different birds. Also a special shout out to Leroy, who helped us on the last full day of birding; he was great. The drivers Renford and Devon were awesome as well.
