Ghana is a West African destination like no other: it is a politically stable, English-speaking nation that is acknowledged as the friendliest country in the region. It is also one of the safest countries in which the Upper Guinea forest block, an internationally recognised Endemic Bird Area, can be accessed, and our birding tour of Ghana allows for a thorough exploration of the most exciting West African birding habitats. From Guinea savanna to lush rainforest, we will see much of what Ghana has to offer, promising a truly impressive bird tally and a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Our days in this wonderful country will be spent ambling forested trails, scanning for canopy species from a fabulous walkway, and exploring vast tracts of deciduous woodland. Typical African families such as turacos, barbets, sunbirds and greenbuls are particularly well represented, yielding a colourful and interesting bounty of species. Furthermore, we also have the opportunity to see one of Africa’s most highly sought-after birds – the fabled White-necked Rockfowl!

The tour was well planned and well paced. The Tour Leader Stephan and Local Guide were both excellent, and worked well as a team. Indeed they were the icing on the cake as to making the tour so good.
"1.Rockjumper is the premier birding tour company, with their professional guides, comprehensive tours, good logistics and strong support staff. 2. The local outfitter provided the best local support ever. The local guides were much more than good local guides. They jumped in whenever assistance was needed; from setting the tables, to serving food, to inspecting the restrooms, to getting us on a difficult bird, to providing plenty of water and to delivering luggage. The restaurants always had the food ready upon arrival. The local office pre-paid for our arrival Covid-19 tests. Our driver, slowed for every speed-bump and pothole. He only made 1 wrong turn, which we teased him about. We all felt safe with him at the wheel. 3. The hotels, food, accommodations and logistics were satisfactory and good. 4. Greg de Klerk, our Rockjumper guide, was attentive and interested in our welfare. Two good things Greg did was to ask the group for feedback, such as “Yes, I got the bird.” Many of us were too quiet. Also, I liked it when Greg said the birds full name, twice. Sometimes, he even said the name three times. Between the different accents (South African & American), my diminished hearing and the variation in bird names (Clements vs. IOC), getting the bird names can be a real challenge."
Andre was really good. I feel he is a potential superstar leader. He has great birding skills and his people skills a pretty good too and will improve with time. He is at his best when helping the tour group work on those tough skulkers. On our next to last day we got three or four of these tough to see birds and it was all due to Andre's skill and patience in dealing with the birders in the group. It was very impressive. That day was one of the best birding days I've had and it involved a lot of hiking. I'd certainly recommend any birding trip with Andre as a guide.
Andre is an excellent lead guide – extremely good with people and logistics as well as birds and other wildlife. We would select another tour lead by him in a second.
Andre proved to be an excellent lead guide and was very well supported by Mark. They had a very good knowledge of the birds of Ghana and knew where to look for them and how to locate them. They got on well and provided us with excellent company. We were very pleased with our bird list, with many rare and highly desirable species. The Picathartes was the major reason we went to Ghana and was, for us, the highlight of the trip and the views were superb.
