Honduras, one of Central America’s best-kept birding and wildlife secrets. A biodiversity hotspot, it supports more than 700 bird species and various habitats including over 30 separate cloud forests. We will first take some time to explore one of the most remarkable eco-lodges on the planet: Pico Bonito! The bird list will be as impressive as the grounds and cuisine, where we can expect to find such gems as Keel-billed and Tody Motmots, Keel-billed Toucan, Lovely Cotinga, Chestnut-colored Woodpecker, Red-capped Manakin, White Hawk, King Vulture, Black-and-white Owl, and too many other fantastic species to list here! We shall also visit the Honduran Emerald Reserve in the Aguan Valley for one of the only true endemics to the region, the glittering little hummer after which the reserve is named.
The awesome birdlife is further augmented by the ease of travel, standard of lodge, super-friendly people and fine cuisine, making this a thoroughly enjoyable birding adventure for both hardcore and casual birders alike!

UNDEMANDING: This tour is ideal for birders and wildlife enthusiasts of all experience levels. It’s suitable for most mobility levels and offers a relaxed pace, ensuring an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Mostly easy. Suitable for most birding / wildlife interest levels. Some early mornings & optional day trails.
Very comfortable.
Mostly easy, a few trickier forest species. Garden & lodge birding typically provides good visuals of many species.
One of the world's best eco-lodges, excellent for butterflies and moths, great food
Good. Good feeders around the lodge. Photography more difficult within closed forest canopy.
This was a great tour, even better than the itinerary described, with a few surprise activities. I really enjoyed Alexander and felt I learned a lot about the birds and Honduras while with him.
This trip was outstanding thanks to the skillful, awesome leader Alex. The size of this tour was perfect. Alex has great energy and his birding by ear skills are outstanding and Alex helped all of us to see the birds he heard. I appreciated Alex’s historical knowledge of his country. Alex was extremely prompt and our time was very well balanced and well utilized. I loved the river float and i LOVED every lunch we had when we were “in the field”. ALex added so much to the trip due to his enthusiasm for reptiles and insects which made our night walks outstanding. I appreciate the timing of coffee breaks that Alex suggested between destinations. Pico Bonito Lodge was nice, clean and the grounds were beautiful. I would appreciate if RJ would speak to PB lodge manager ( Christian?) and suggest to him that the bird platforms are cleaned and fruit is placed upon them so guests could enjoy the birds. The meals and the staff at PB were outstanding but the Lodge manager seemed disengaged. I would have liked to have seen the Hummingbird feeders cleaned and refreshed at least once during our stay. I would suggest a day or two less at the PB lodge and in exchange, we travel to the Highland area for a night or 2. This was my 2nd RJ trip and it was as outstanding as my first! I will continue to travel with RJ and I will seek out the expert and awesome Alex upon my next trip to Central America. I invited my brother on this trip as my eldest brother’s first birding tour. Alex and the other guests made this trip a great experience for both of us. Thank you for all you do for the birds and a special shout out to Alex!!
