This exciting 15-day Andaman & Nicobar birding adventure has been specially designed for the Oriental Bird Club, offering a rare opportunity to explore one of India’s most remote and endemic-rich island groups. Beginning in Port Blair on South Andaman, the tour targets a superb suite of Andaman endemics and regional specialities in forest, wetland, mangrove and nocturnal habitats. Early highlights may include Andaman Teal, Andaman Green Pigeon, Andaman Wood-Pigeon, Andaman Shama, Andaman Drongo, Andaman Woodpecker, Andaman Bulbul and the elusive Andaman Crake, while night birding could produce Hume’s Boobook, Andaman Boobook, Andaman Scops-Owl, Andaman Nightjar and the highly prized Andaman Masked-Owl.
A major feature of the tour is the voyage south to Great Nicobar, with opportunities for pelagic species such as Flesh-footed Shearwater, Bridled Tern and both Great and Lesser Crested Terns. From the ship, we will also scan Kamorta for the much-wanted Nicobar Bulbul.
Seven full days on Great Nicobar give us time to search for some of the region’s most sought-after birds, including Nicobar Serpent-Eagle, Nicobar Jungle Flycatcher, Nicobar Imperial-Pigeon, Nicobar Parakeet, Nicobar Hooded Pitta and the notoriously difficult Nicobar Megapode. Other possible highlights include Nicobar Pigeon, Blyth’s Paradise Flycatcher, Black-backed Dwarf Kingfisher and the endemic Nicobar Scops-Owl, with a dedicated effort to find the mysterious, undescribed “Nicobar Crake.”
Remote, adventurous and rich in island endemism, this promises to be a truly memorable expedition.

DIFFICULT: This is a high-intensity “mega” tour designed for passionate listers and serious birders who enjoy a fast-paced schedule. Due to its demanding nature, it’s not recommended for avid photographers, inexperienced birders, or anyone with mobility or health limitations.
Moderate pace; early starts, repeated efforts for endemics, occasional night birding, long sea crossings.
Comfortable in Port Blair; basic on Great Nicobar; functional inter-island vessel accommodation, cabin class subject to availability.
Moderate; many localized endemics, forest birding, some difficult and elusive targets.
120-140 species
Remote island expedition feel, pelagic and cetacean watching, Great Nicobar wilderness, island endemism.
Worthwhile to good; no dedicated hides.
This was my first Rockjumper trip. I definitely will be a repeat customer. The booking process was easy and painless. The transport and hotel logistics during the trip were flawless. David Hoddinott and Ansar Khan were excellent guides and worked diligently to make sure we saw as many birds as possible.
David Hoddinott is simply outstanding: Calm, focused, truly excellent knowledge of the birds, their calls and habits. He has a wonderful sense of humour, too.
David Hoddinott is wonderful and a great leader.
We had a wonderful trip with Rich Lindie and Stephan Lorenz, and we would certainly be happy to travel with either of them again. They were both excellent with the birds, had a great sense of humour, and were helpful and patient when individuals required extra assistance. In addition to the birding, we enjoyed a long list of mammals sighted in the various national parks. The accommodations and meals were also very good.
I had a wonderful time on this tour. The group had great chemistry, the accommodations and food were excellent and we visited many beautiful places. This and much more made for a very pleasurable experience. I hadn't been with Paul before on a tour; I'll certainly be checking on his tours now. Put simply, he was excellent. In addition to his obvious birding skills, he handled all phases very efficiently, and he made sure everyone could/would see as many birds (and mammals, etc) as they could, and his outgoing, pleasant personality all added up to a very rewarding and memorable experience. The guides and many other people of India really added to our trip. They were very friendly and helpful. That added a lot to our trip. Lastly, but not least, THANK YOU to all the Rockjumper staff. They helped me with all my questions and requests. They always do this. (Side note; this was my 11th nd 12th tours with Rockjumper) Again , THANKS to all at Rockjumper.
