Our Buru Extension explores a beautifully forested island hosting 20 currently recognised endemic species plus several very distinctive, endemic subspecies and localised regional endemics. MODERATE TO CHALLENGING: This tour requires a good level of fitness, stamina, and overall health. It’s best suited for experienced birders who are comfortable with a more active itinerary. Please note that it may not be ideal for avid photographers, new birders, or those with mobility or health concerns.
Moderate. Many early starts & late endings to the day since the tour operates during the austral summer. Several night birds to be found. Hot & humid conditions throughout, coupled with low-density birding.
Comfortable, villa style rooms.
Mostly moderate. Many target species do show well. However, mostly forested habitat coupled with low density means that birding can be slow / challenging. Several species are scarce / shy, which requi

Ranges from very good to challenging, depending on habitat & situation. Some dedicated hides at bird-of-paradise display leks provide for superb photography. Mostly rewarding / worthwhile.
This extension provides the opportunity to observe some very rare birds. Highly recommend that keen clients on the cruise take advantage of this opportunity. Glen gets a gold medal for excellent guiding under difficult circumstances.
Oh my goodness, Glen is such a terrific guide! It was clear to us that he was quite ill much of the time, but he never flagged in his dedication to getting us on every bird. What a trooper! I feel very fortunate that I was able to get on this tour.
"It was a wonderful adventure, fulfilling all the promises in your advertising. Adam is amazing. His knowledge of Indonesian birds and their vocalizations is phenomenal. He was extremely patient, waiting for endemics and other special birds to become visible and making sure that we could all see each and every one. Not only that, Adam was also an excellent travel companion."
David and Lev are exception leaders and worked very hard to find the birds and get everyone onto them. A remarkable trip.
I was extremely impressed with the organisational skills of all involved in this tour. All the guides Rockjumper and local were highly skilled and completely considerate of the non birding needs of the participants. I would like to say that not having an upset stomach at any point during the tour was a big plus to my enjoyment. There were some safely issues that in such a remote part of the world can only be expected, I was very happy to be part of this exciting tour and not sure that it would be possible to micro manage all the safety issues.
