Our short extension to the tiny Kai archipelago takes us to Kai Kecil and Kai Besar - the two largest islands, each hosting its very own suite of endemics. A short trip to Haruku Island should produce Moluccan and Dusky Megapodes, before we head to Kai Cecil and Kai Besar where we’ll search for the endemic Kai Monarch, Golden-bellied (Kai Kecil) White-eye, the elusive Kai Cicadabird, keyensis subspecies of Rufous-sided Gerygone, endemic assimilis subspecies of Northern Fantail (Kai Fantail) and the ubiquitous and noisy Spangled Drongo (Kai Spangled Drongo), Kai Coucal, Pearl-bellied (Kai Besar) White-eye and localised Cinnamon-chested Flycatcher.

André was an excellent leader on this tour. His identification skills, in particular his excellent sight and hearing, were key to me seeing most of the more difficult species, despite my best attempts to mishear or not see certain species. My attempt to morph a boobook into a bulbul didn’t quite work. The ground support was superbly managed by Raja and I must congratulate him on his luggage repair skills.
Glen and Paul did a fantastic job on this tour. Glen is an excellent birder, guide and a wonderful personality. This is the second trip I have done with Glen and hope to join many more in the future.
Glen and Keith Valentine worked seamlessly together to make this one of the best Rockjumper trips! The logistics went well, local guides were great, and the boat was quite comfortable and offered good food and variety. Best of all, the birds were plentiful and everyone got lifers galore. The bros Valentine did everything possible to be sure that everyone got onto the birds and they worked tirelessly doing so. I would travel with either or both of them anywhere, thanks guys!
What a fabulous tour to such a remote part of Indonesia. As always, Glen and Keith Valentine were exceptional guides and great fun to be with. The crew of our boat, Lady Denok, were amazing whether it was in the dining room, making great coffees, getting us in and out of the dinghies or taking us snorkelling. Once we left the boat in the Tanimbars, the local agent was there to meet us and the land-based part of the tour was exceptionally well managed. The local people were very welcoming and could not do enough for us.
Still catching-up on sleep after so many very early-morning starts, but great way to travel - by boat (Indo Seamore) as only need to unpack once (well twice with final hotel stay in Sarong- which was best hotel i have stayed in on a birding trip - except the restaurant ran out of wine!). Boat looked after us very well and i was very impressed with the team and their organisation, and level of care for me, in particular. The laundry service in the boat was excellent and very necessary, as other laundry facilities were lacking.
