Then it is off am an adventure to reach the remote Lac Matsaborimena, which will be the undoubted highlight of the trip as we search for Madagascan Pochard, the critically endangered Slender-billed Flufftail, declining Malagasy Harrier and rare Red Owl.

What our clients say about us

Adam Walleyn
GB & DB, Madagascar 2017

Our guide, Adam Walleyn, was exceptional. His knowledge and enthusiasm is unparalleled.

André Bernon
KB, Madagascar - Comprehensive I 2026

The Madagascar tour (Comprehensive and Ranomafana Extension) was everything I'd hoped for, and more, with fabulous birds and many lemurs. We used a very nice hotel with excellent food as a base of operations at the start, finish, and for occasional one-nighters between flights to 4 locations, which was very convenient -- especially for laundry and storing items if flights required lighter luggage. All of our flights were on time (amazing!) and we saw almost all of the birds we attempted -- and more species than I'd expected, based on previous years' reports and in view of recent habitat decline. When our flight back to Tana on our last day was quite early, leaving us with most of the day to spare (and no productive local birding left at that point,) a trip to the historical Queen's Palace was arranged, which was quite interesting! Our local agent Solohary kept everything running smoothly, helped us find birds and shared his love of Madagascar with us with lots of information about the country. Tour Leader Andre Bernon was fantastic, with excellent eyes and ears and a fast laser pointer to help us see the birds, good calls about how to spend the group's time and energy, attention to the needs of all group members, and a friendly, upbeat and enjoyable attitude at all times. Local guides at each location were excellent at finding birds and very helpful (especially on the rain-slick trail at Iaroka.) I have traveled with Rockjumper before (and will do so again) as well as many other birding tour companies, but this is one of the best trips ever!

Robert Williams
TJ & AJ, Madagascar 2018

Our leader, Rob Williams, was extremely knowledgeable, had a good sense of humour and was keen to see as many species as possible. He helped group members locate more difficult species.

Adam Walleyn
PF & BF, Madagascar 2017

This was our first tour with Rockjumper and it was absolutely fabulous. Adam Walleyn is by far the best bird guide we have ever had the privilege of working with. His combined qualities as the overall tour leader in terms of personality, ability to deal with whatever got thrown at him and interactive skills were all great. He was very good at keeping us informed of what was planned and was happening next. He was very good at imposing a gentle but essential discipline on the group - rotation in the procession, rotation of positions in the buses, ensuring that everyone got to see the bird - all made for a really good functionality in the group. His sharpness in the field, knowledge of bird calls and bird identification were simply remarkable.

Adam Walleyn
KO & MD, Madagascar 2018

Adam Walleyn was amazing, and we will definitely be looking into arranging a private Rockjumper tour with him in the future. Not only did he have extensive knowledge of the birds, but also the other flora and fauna, as well as some of the historical aspects of Madagascar.
