Expected Climate

The tour covers Cape Town and Manyoni Game Reserve, each with distinct winter climates. In Cape Town, expect cool to mild temperatures ranging from 8-18°C (46-64°F) with frequent rain showers, overcast days, and occasional clear, crisp weather. The winter winds can be strong, especially during cold fronts, so warm, waterproof clothing and layers are recommended. At Manyoni Game Reserve in Zululand, temperatures are milder, ranging from 10-25°C (50-77°F), with clear, sunny days and cool nights. This dry season is ideal for wildlife viewing as animals congregate around water sources. Light layers for daytime and warm clothing for early morning and evening game drives are advisable.

Tour Pace & Walking

The tour combines active wildlife viewing and exploration with ample time for relaxation and enjoyment of the scenic surroundings, making it suitable for travelers looking for a balanced itinerary.

What our clients say about us

Daniel Danckwerts
MW, South Africa 2021

"We all immensely enjoyed this Tailor-made tour. Dan is an excellent guide: great ears, great eyes, persistent, patient, cheerful, and knowledgeable about all nature. He really went all out for us, and he succeeded in finding very elusive and range-restricted species. We hope to travel with him in the future. Other aspects of the trip: lodging, transportation, etc. were excellent too. We appreciate the behind-the-scenes efforts by Heinz and the rest of the Rockjumper team."

David Hoddinott
MW, South African Mega 2015

David was a fantastic guide whose love for his homeland, and passion for its wildlife, shone brightly. I couldn’t have wished for a better guide to show me the wonders of South Africa.

Julian Parsons
RK, South Africa

The tour was fantastic. Julian Parsons is an excellent guide. Outstanding with both birds and people. Several times he was required to troubleshoot problems and issues and did so without distracting from the trip in any way. Our driver was also fantastic. Two flat tires, but he quickly changed out to the spare and arranged to have both fixed, after hours! He was very personable and incredibly safe driver. We always arrived on time (or early) without incident, including when we had the flat tires.

Ryan Tyrer
LW, South Africa - Cape Extension (Small Group) II 2026

Ryan is an excellent tour guide and birder. He is an amazing person. You could not find a better, more knowledgeable guide than Ryan. He is truly a gem! He handles all kinds of situations with ease and his knowledge of South Africa is amazing. We had a wonderful time.

James Wade Lee
WD, South Africa - Eastern (Small Group) III 2026

A guide with a wealth of knowledge on ornithological topics, an excellent ear for bird calls, an expert at identifying species, and a thorough understanding of where to find particular species. I am very pleased with the trip you organised.
