Expected Climate

The tour covers Cape Town and Manyoni Game Reserve, each with distinct winter climates. In Cape Town, expect cool to mild temperatures ranging from 8-18°C (46-64°F) with frequent rain showers, overcast days, and occasional clear, crisp weather. The winter winds can be strong, especially during cold fronts, so warm, waterproof clothing and layers are recommended. At Manyoni Game Reserve in Zululand, temperatures are milder, ranging from 10-25°C (50-77°F), with clear, sunny days and cool nights. This dry season is ideal for wildlife viewing as animals congregate around water sources. Light layers for daytime and warm clothing for early morning and evening game drives are advisable.

Tour Pace & Walking

The tour combines active wildlife viewing and exploration with ample time for relaxation and enjoyment of the scenic surroundings, making it suitable for travelers looking for a balanced itinerary.

What our clients say about us

David Hoddinott
OS - South Africa 2019

David Hoddinott was a superior guide with extensive knowledge (of course) about the avifauna, but also provided good knowledge about other nature matters as well as SA culture and geography apart from being an overall nice person. Would highly recommend.

Ryan Tyrer
JD, South Africa - Cape & Kruger 2026

Ryan and Dirk were excellent. Well organized and managed the group well. Housing and food were very good. I really enjoyed my first visit to Africa and am already looking to return. Thanks!

Gregory de Klerk
WB & BB, South Africa

The lynchpin for our entire experience was the guide - and Greg de Klerk was simply brilliant. He was extremely skilled in knowing where the birds might be, and finding them once we got there. He carefully made sure that we all saw the bird. He was very knowledgeable about bird and mammal behaviour, and shared a lot of information with the tour members. He smoothly handled logistics, is a good driver, and patient with non-nationals who are unfamiliar with South African customs. He has a wonderful sense of humour; and a very warm and outgoing personality, which stimulated good relations between tour members. We would be very excited to go on another Rockjumper trip with him!

James Wade Lee
MN, South Africa - Eastern (Small Group) III 2026

First of all the best leader I ever had - enthusiastic, with knowledge of birds and animals, helpful, the man who can see and hear everything. Many thanks! Also nice places for accomodation with really friendly hosts. And of course South Africa - huge and beautiful country.

André Bernon
M

I am not a twitcher or even a knowledgeable birdwatcher, but I am always keen to see new things. Our ranger André had a huge knowledge of birds. He shared this and more about all the flora and fauna that we came across. He explained about insects and trees as we passed them and didn't fail to answer a question.
