Southern Spain hosts one of the greatest bird migration spectacles on the planet. At the narrow Strait of Gibraltar, only 14 kilometres (9 miles) separate Europe from Africa, creating a natural bottleneck through which millions of birds pass each year. During late September, the migration season is often at its peak, with vast numbers of raptors, storks, seabirds and passerines moving south towards their African wintering grounds. Few places in the world offer such opportunities to witness migration on this scale.
Our journey focuses on the diverse landscapes of Andalusia, from the internationally important wetlands of the Guadalquivir Valley and Doñana region to the dramatic cliffs and coastal habitats surrounding Tarifa, Europe's southernmost point. Along the way we will explore some of Spain's most productive birding areas in search of a remarkable array of species, including Spanish Imperial Eagle, Bonelli's Eagle, Black-winged Kite, White-headed Duck, Marbled Duck, Northern Bald Ibis, Little Swift and Greater Flamingo.
The waters of the Strait are equally rewarding, supporting an impressive variety of seabirds and marine mammals. Sea watching may produce Mediterranean (Balearic) and Scopoli's Shearwaters, Northern Gannet and skuas, while our whale-watching excursion offers opportunities to encounter several species of dolphins and whales in one of Europe's richest marine environments.
Migration remains the central theme throughout the tour. Weather permitting, we may witness breathtaking concentrations of soaring birds gathering above the hills overlooking the Strait before embarking on the crossing to Africa. Thousands of Black Kites, Short-toed Snake Eagles, Booted Eagles, storks and other migrants can fill the skies, creating one of the most memorable wildlife experiences Europe has to offer.
Combining spectacular migration, outstanding wetlands, dramatic mountain scenery and a wealth of Mediterranean specialities, this tour offers an unforgettable exploration of one of Europe's premier birding destinations.

UNDEMANDING: This tour is ideal for birders and wildlife enthusiasts of all experience levels. It’s suitable for most mobility levels and offers a relaxed pace, ensuring an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Suitable for all birding / wildlife interest levels.
Comfortable.
Easy to moderate. Most birding takes place in open habitats. Some migration watching involves prolonged scanning from observation points and species can be distant at times.
vast numbers of migrating raptors & other species, visiting a newly established breeding colony of Critically Endangered Northern Bald Ibis, whale watching sea cruise
Good to excellent. Open habitats, spectacular migration events, wetland concentrations and dramatic coastal scenery provide outstanding photographic opportunities.
Another fantastic RJ trip! Javi did an excellent job finding the birds and especially the elusive Iberian Lynx. The accommodations went from comfortable to luxurious. The food and the wine - superb!! Me gusto Espana
Stephan was absolutely the best …experienced , professional. Genuine caring about birds ,environment , and the tour participants .Will definitely be looking for his name on my next Rock jumper tour .
Yeray had extensive local knowledge which proved very useful and he ensured the group was on the bird before it flew. His good timekeeping and organisational skills were appreciated. Accommodation and meals were very good, and I appreciated the suggestions for warmer clothes for the next day, as the Pyrenees proved unseasonably cold. The vehicle used on the tour had good viewing and quite spacious. Altogether a great trip. I would travel with Yeray again
Overall, it was an excellent tour. The itinerary was very well thought out giving a really good coverage of the main sites with great accommodation. I can see a lot of detailed planning went into it, including making use of very good local guides. Both Dusan and Yeray were both very good at identifying the birds, making sure people got on them and great company. The minibus chatter was both lively and entertaining at times! They were conscious of who needed to see certain species or when better views where needed. It was a rewarding and fun tour! Dusan was great at doing the checklist: he spelt out the names of the sites we had been to and went through the list at a sensible pace.
This was a great short tour, well-designed to get us into a wide range of habitats for a fine selection of European birds. Yeray Seminario did a fantastic job of finding Spains specialties while making adjustments to dodge persistent rainstorms during the week and a local festival in Andalusia. He was knowledgeable, helpful, patient, and fun to bird with, and I would not hesitate to recommend his tours or travel with him again. There were lots of great birds; I particularly enjoyed the vultures, raptors, and the very accessible Northern Bald Ibis colony. Accommodations were great, particularly our last day at a lodge that specifically targeted birders, with its own hides. It was also a very fun group of birders. These days, shorter tours with smaller groups fill the bill for me, and I would love to see more of them!
