The Dominican Republic is the second largest Caribbean nation, straddling the eastern half of arguably the most beautiful of all the large Caribbean islands, Hispaniola. Hispaniola boasts an impressive variety of endemic and range-restricted birds, including six endemic genera and the monotypic Palmchat, the sole representative of its own bird family! Our comprehensive Dominican Republic birding tour is co-led by the nation’s top birder and takes us through all the habitats necessary to target the island’s specialties, from dry thorn scrub to montane pine forest. Some of our numerous targets include a dedicated search for the rare Ridgway’s Hawk, as well as Ashy-faced Owl, Least Poorwill, White-fronted Quail-Dove, Hispaniolan Amazon, Hispaniolan Parakeet, Bay-breasted Cuckoo, beautiful Broad-billed and Narrow-billed Todies, Hispaniolan Trogon, Hispaniolan Woodpecker, Hispaniolan Emerald, White-necked Crow, White-winged Warbler and Hispaniolan Crossbill.
What our clients say about tours to Dominican Republic
KL, Dominican Republic
Dusan was excellent, I plan to travel with him again in Ecuador.
GB & DB – Cuba, Dominican Republic and Jamaica 2019
Our Rockjumper guide for all three tours, Adam Walleyn, was an excellent birder and attentive to all participants. We have travelled with Adam previously and continue to enjoy his expertise and passion for nature. Adam’s leadership was a major factor in our booking the three tours.

Rob Williams and local guides were absolutely excellent. They knew the birds, the calls, where to go, when to be there.
KT, Dominican Republic 2018
This was my first tour with Forrest Rowland and he was wonderful. Forrest was most solicitous of my needs, and unlike many leaders, he waited until I had caught up before playing a tape to call birds in. He was an excellent communicator, always apprising us of upcoming plans, and kept the tour running on…
PM, Dominican Republic 2018
Rob Williams and Caesar were excellent, and so was the birding and group dynamics.
KM, Dominican Republic 2018
This tour may have been short, but it was not easy, so thank goodness our guide, Dušan Brinkhuizen, was so much fun to be with and so knowledgeable.
