This exclusive tour takes you from the silent forests of Finnish Lapland to the dramatic cliffs of Varangerfjord, offering a rare chance to photograph wildlife in breathtaking, snow-covered settings. In Lapland, we begin with quiet encounters—Siberian Jays and Pine Grosbeaks at birdfeeders. With some luck, Northern Hawk Owls or Willow Grouse may appear along the roadsides, adding to the magic of the early spring wilderness.
Crossing into Norway, the pace quickens. For four full days, Vardø becomes our base for Arctic action. We explore the area intensively with a schedule packed full of boat trips and hide sessions. Hornøya Island—Arctic Norway’s crown jewel for seabird photography—awaits us with its dramatic cliffs and thousands of seabirds, including Atlantic Puffins posing against icy backdrops. When night falls, the Aurora Borealis may dance above the fjord.
With all hides and boats pre-booked, and daily plans shaped by the light and local conditions, every moment is optimised for photography. Let the stillness of snow meet the pulse of life in the north—this is Arctic spring at its finest.

UNDEMANDING: This tour is ideal for birders and wildlife enthusiasts of all experience levels. It’s suitable for most mobility levels and offers a relaxed pace, ensuring an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Comfortable. Two long drives with birding & photographic breaks. Some late evenings waiting for Aurora borealis (optional). Bird Photo Tours • These tours are not aimed at seeing the most species possible on the route, rather taking time to photograph key targets and any other interesting species we may find. Naturally, the overall species list will be lower than a comparable birding focused tour. • Unlike our normal Bird Photo tours, this tour does make extensive use of blinds, feeders and hide setups and we’ll be spending many hours every day at the blinds and hides. • These tours are suitable for photographers who prefer both extensive blinds time and opportunistic photography. • Our leaders will assist in helping everyone secure good photographic opportunities and advise as much as they can on camera setup. However, they are not professional photographic tour leaders.
Comfortable with en suite facilities.
Birding is undemanding. Primary focus is photography.
charismatic boats and houses so typical of a northern Norwegian fishing community
Excellent. Professionally built, well located hides & blinds.
I consider myself very lucky to have had Nigel Redman as our tour guide. His knowledge of the birds, as well as their habitats, and ability to spot them made for a completely satisfying birding experience. He also ensured we were all made comfortable in regards to travelling, meals, and lodging. We also lucked out having Taru as our local Finnature guide. I really cannot express how much I appreciated them both. Thank you for a great birding tour.
I got most of the high-value targets that I wanted. The local guide Taru was excellent; she was fantastic at knowing the sites, and knowing what might be there, and in identifying the birds. And she was excellent by being in contact with other members of Finnature, and in looking up the local sightings pages to look for sites for specific species. Nigel Redman is a very nice guy. I like him and we got on well. I would be happy to go with Nigel again on a cruise (e.g. Antarctica, Spitzbergen, etc). It was a very good trip.
