We begin our adventure on the French island of Réunion, a rugged volcanic outpost clad in forests and home to a suite of distinctive endemics. While exploring the highlands of La Roche Écrite and surrounding habitats, we’ll search for Réunion Cuckooshrike, Réunion Bulbul and the island’s two endemic white-eyes. Offshore, the surrounding tropical waters provide a chance for Barau’s Petrel and other regional seabirds.
From Réunion we continue to Mauritius, followed by the remote island of Rodrigues. These islands illustrate both the fragility and resilience of isolated ecosystems. Mauritius Kestrel, Pink Pigeon and Echo Parakeet are now conservation success stories after being pushed to the brink, and Rodrigues offers its own pair of endemic treasures with Rodrigues Warbler and Rodrigues Fody. Highlights will include visits to the famed Black River Gorges National Park as well as the coral limestone sanctuary of Île aux Aigrettes.
We then fly to the granitic Seychelles, often regarded as among the most beautiful islands on Earth. Across Mahé, Praslin, Cousin and La Digue, we’ll seek some of the world’s rarest island birds, including Seychelles Paradise Flycatcher, Seychelles Scops Owl, Seychelles Magpie-Robin and Seychelles Blue Pigeon. The archipelago also hosts immense seabird colonies, with vast numbers of Sooty and White Terns, noddies, frigatebirds, shearwaters and more than 20,000 White-tailed Tropicbirds creating a spectacular finale to our journey.
