This relaxed-paced tour explores the famous and quintessential birding and wildlife reserves of northern Tanzania, Tarangire National Park, Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. The tour will focus on several common Tanzanian endemics and regional specials whilst having ample time to marvel at some of the highest concentrations of wildlife to be found anywhere on our planet, and all this amidst spectacular scenery in one of Africa's wildest, most stable, and least spoilt destinations.
Some of the many regional specials and endemic birds that we will be seeking including the beautiful Fischer’s and Yellow-collared Lovebirds, Ashy Starling, Grey-breasted Spurfowl and Rufous-tailed Weaver. Our tour uses a good standard of accommodation and comfortable safari vehicles with pop-up roof hatches to optimize viewing. This incredible and immensely rewarding birding safari is augmented by some of the most outstanding mammal viewing the world has to offer!

UNDEMANDING: This tour is ideal for birders and wildlife enthusiasts of all experience levels. It’s suitable for most mobility levels and offers a relaxed pace, ensuring an enjoyable experience for everyone.
Our Relaxed series of tours are designed to focus on having an enjoyable holiday with a bird and wildlife focus. Where possible; we have reduced or removed long drives, single night stays and poor/rustic accommodation. We have also sought to reduce or remove difficult hikes, narrow/muddy trails and otherwise oppressive environmental conditions. Early starts and night birding are mostly optional, and we will not spend much time searching for difficult and/or skulking species. These tours are not suitable for hardcore birders and listers, or dedicated photographers.

Julian Parsons is an outstanding tour leader; friendly, knowlegeable, engaging, fair and patient. As a birding, wildlife, and nature guide his knowlege is excellent. He is especially good at locating and then getting all of the guests onto the birds and mammals. Julian is equally skilled when it comes to individual and group dynamics. He quickly learned each guest's particular interests and wish list and did everything he could to realize them while remaining fair and equal to all of the guests. His upbeat and friendly personality is matched in equal measure by his concern and patience; both for each guest individually and for the group as a whole. Our driver, Rogers, was an excellent addition to the tour, both as a skilled driver and for his local knowledge of birds, mammals and nature. The pace of the tour was very good. The lodges were well chosen and comfortable; and offered a welcome variety in settings and accommodations. The food was consistently excellent. We had enough laundry options to keep up with our needs without much hand washing--which is much appreciated.
Paul was excellent. Great at spotting birds and animals, and worked really hard to get us onto difficult to locate sightings. Would suggest that he remind everyone of birding courtesy (get your sighting, make sure your neighbor could get a good sighting, then take photos, and to be careful not to step in front of others, blocking their view). Paul got the ebird lists out to us in about three days (36 checklists) which took a lot of work on his part. Roger was an excellent driver, spotter, birder and historian. He gave us a lot of information about Tanzania, and especially the great migration, which we got to see. There were a ton of highlights on this trip, but I think seeing an Aardvark has to be near the top of the list.
I would like to say the trip was outstanding A few small issues but nothing major. The guide , Paul Josop, who in my opinion as a professional naturalist myself who has done similar type trip leading in the USA and elsewhere for over 40 years, I would say he’s one of the best I’ve seen! I don’t feel there was any way he could be improved upon because his amazing ability to spot birds and animals of all types and identify on the move was second to none . His knowledge of the area and enthusiasm was contagious! I consider myself very skilled but his abilities for the East Africa region were off the charts! Also his ability to always be friendly , handling any personality differences in the group were first class and he always was concerned about the clients and what their needs and wants were above all else. He literally made the trip unforgettable for all of us , and we agreed, and I don’t think I would personally want to go with another guide after this trip with him. He truly deserves it and as much work as you can provide him. Your clients will appreciate it! Please feel free to call me if you would like to discuss any more details concerning the trip. Our Tanzania: Highlights of the North tour was a wonderful experience. Nigel Redman was a superb leader with an in-depth knowledge of the birds of East Africa which he generously shared throughout the trip. His many years of experience in leading birding tours showed: he was an expert in spotting and identifying birds and, most importantly, getting participants on the bird quickly. Nigel's own enthusiasm and delight in birds was contagious and his good humour set the tone for a very enjoyable tour. He and local guide Roger were true professionals and we would love to travel with either again.
The guide , Paul Josop was excellent and his identification and spotting skills were unparalleled. He repeated the bird names frequently when asked and was very enthusiastic about everything he pointed out to the group. He always took care of the group and was very patient and enjoyable to be around. He has excellent knowledge of the areas we visited. The two drivers that helped in Tanzania and Kenya were both knowledgeable and friendly and assisted Paul well. We saw very abundant wildlife in all the parks we visited and exceeded expectations in most areas . The accommodations were also very good . Food was excellent throughout.
